World Heritage Site

1) Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (Previously Victoria Terminus)

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus better known by its abbreviation CST is one of the four World Heritage Sites in Maharashtra. Included as a World Heritage site in 2004 and was built by British architect Frederick Willam Stevens and took nearly ten years to complete (1887-1897).

CST is renamed after Shivaji, the famed Maratha king and Warrior of 17th Century. CST is now the hub of travelers because it is now incorporated as a railway station. Having the highest passenger density in the world about 6.3 million commuters travel every day, it is a nightmare to travel in trains especially in peak hours.

CST was prominently shown in a song sequence in the film Slumdog Millionaire which won Academy award.

2) Gateway of India

A visit to Mumbai is really incomplete without visiting the Gateway of India. The ravishing Taj Mahal Hotel and Taj Towers is just opposite to the gateway which really adds to the charm. Build to commemorate the visit of King George V and queen Mary, is an absolute pleasure to visit.

3) Flora Fountain

Flora fountain was built by architect R. Norman is located at Hutatma Chowk in South Mumbai. Flora fountain in named after Roman goddess Flora.

4) Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL)

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link is a cable-stayed bridge which links Central and Southern Mumbai, which brings the travel time to reach South Mumbai from Central Mumbai to 7 mins from 60 minutes. One of its kind in India, is fast becoming a go-to place for a long drive or a kind of short drive.

5) Marine Drive

This is where most of Mumbaites come for a long walk which stretches up to two kilometers. Skyscrapers opposite the seafront houses some of the most famous businesses of the city. Marine drive was once called queens necklace is the place where you get a tremendous view of the seafront, a place where couples usually take a long walk

6) Siddhivinayak Temple

Siddhivinayak temple is the home to Mumbai's favorite God - Ganapati, the Elephant God. Hundreds and thousands of people visit the temple every day. People also believe, if they walk barefoot from their home to the temple observing the fast will be humbled and all their wishes (Mannat in Hindi) will come true.

7) Haji Ali Shrine

Haji Ali Shrine constructed in the year 1431, is a perfect instance of Indian Islamic architecture.The structure located 500 meters from the coast, in the middle of Worli bay is an absolute pleasure to visit.

8) Mount Mary Church, Bandra

Mount Mary church is one of the most visited churches in Mumbai. The fantastic looking structure has the two spires and one of the main attraction is the Mount Mary fair which is celebrated on the Sunday following 8th September, the birthday of Virgin Mary.

Art Gallery, Library and Museum

9) Jehangir Art Gallery

Founded by Sir Cowasji Banerjee, built in the year 1952 and managed and operated by Bombay Art Society, is one of the most famous tourist attraction and art gallery.

10) National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA)

NGMA mumbai was opened in the year 1966, located near regal cinema in colaba is home to some of the finest work by Pablo Picasso, with numerous other artefact's and statues

11) Asiatic Library

Some of the rarest manuscripts and original works can be found here.

12) Mani Bhavan

Mahatma Gandhi's place of residence when he was in Mumbai, owned by the Revashankar Jagjeevan Jhaveri, Gandhi's host and companion. Place where Gandhiji started Satyagraha and Non-Cooperation movement to name a few.

More recently, Obama was here to pay homage to the Mahatma.

13) Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (Previously Prince of Wales Museum)

This museum has a wide variety of artefact's and very rare manuscripts. A wide variety of Tibetan and Nepali art is decently arranged with dedicated sections.

Bazaar and Market

14) Chor Bazaar

Chor Bazaar (Thief Market) is the largest flea market in India. Many people come here to get a good bargain on second hand or even new products.

If you are a foreigner, try and do accompany a guide or local person with you.

15) Crawford Market (officially Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai)

Just opposite the Mumbai police Headquarters is the Crawford Market which has a huge pet store on one side and foods, cosmetics, household and gift items on the other side.

Amusement park, Beach and Bollywood

16) Essel World

Essel World is the first amusement park of India, and it has over 30 major rides, a decent place to spend the New year's Eve.

17) Water Kingdom

Just alongside Essel World is Water Kingdom, with amazing and spectacular rides and slides.

18) Juhu Beach

A visit at Juhu beach makes one feel refreshed and invigorated. In the morning, you will always find people doing their regular exercise, yoga or some just prefer to walk along the seafront. Weekends are always crowded with scores of Mumbaites coming with their friends and families. Or if you got lucky then you'd probably spot a Bollywood actor.

Best Time To Visit Mumbai

The weather in Mumbai is more of less constant all along the year. The best time to visit Mumbai would be in the month of August to March. Cultural festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Navratri is held in of August/September.
