Watching comedy movies has always been a favorite past-time of mine. After publishing a hub on best Hindi comedy movies, many have suggested me to write a list of 100 best comedy movies. So in order to help many of those who constantly look for great comedy movies to watch, this list will surely help.

The below list would not be a mundane list that you may have came across many other sites. Besides a short description of the movie you'll also find some of the best comedy videos so that you can have a chuckle here and there as you go through the list. Also I have crazily searched on Youtube the movies listed below, and the good news is that some of the movies are available for streaming free of cost (Links at bottom of this page).

The numbering is done on the basis of the year in which they were released. So, claps.... drum rolls and here we go.

1| Albela (1951)

The first in the list is a musical comedy film. For youngsters this might seem a very old movie but then the songs are even heard now. Songs such as Shola Jo Bhadke..Dil Mera Tadpe, Bholi Surat Dil Ke Khote, Shaam Dale Khidke Tale etc. are as famous as they were then. Now tell me do you still find the movie old.

2| Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958)

A Kishore Kumar and Madhubala starring movie is remembered for the cheerful and bubbly act of Kishore Kumar. One song that I remember from the movie is Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi se.

3| Jhumroo (1961)

Again a Kishore Kumar and Madhubala feature. If you are watching Chalti Ka Naam Gadi on this weekend then include this one too.

4| Half Ticket (1962)

The sixty's and the seventy's were dominated by two people. One of them was Kishore Kumar and the other one was Madhubala. Again a film which brings both of them together with some hilarious scenes and good music (Do I even need to say that when Kishore Kumar is the lead actor).

Mahmood in a Comedy Scene From Pyaar Kiye Jaa

5| Pyar Kiye Jaa (1966)

Now comes Mahmood with his awesome sense of comedy. Mehmood has a song O Meri Maina with Mumtaz which is funny and has some comical dance steps.

6| Padosan (1968)

A film with a good story-line that makes one to watch this movie over and over again. Clashes of Kishore Kumar and Mahmood with supporting roles from Sunil Dutt and Saira Banu makes for a great spectacle.

7| Bombay to Goa (1974)

Though a remake of a Tamil movie but it was bigger hit than its Tamil counterpart. Scenes like "Amma Pakoda" and the "snake goes abrupt" are some which have been marked in every movie buffs memory.

8| Kunwara Baap (1974)

Mahmood, the master of comedy once again is set to entertain you in this flick. Though, the film has a serious subject dealing with polio vaccination but Mehmood as usual has his share of comedy scenes. Also, the song Saj Rahi Gali which is like a trademark of the transgender community happens to be from this movie.

9| Chupke Chupke (1975)

Now nobody can argue this films inclusion in the list. A well-written story and all around excellent performance from Dharmendra and company.

Na Jaane Kyun - A Beautiful Song from Chhoti Si Baat

10| Chhoti Si Baat (1975)

The film which gave Amol Palekar instant success. A romantic comedy film in which Amol Palekar plays the normal office goer boy who lacks confidence and thus he can't get his lady love. So, he sets out to meet Ashok Kumar, who is a retired army man and has made his mission to help those who are like Amol. In the end, Amol with expert advice from Ashok Kumar finally convinces her lady love and they live happily ever after.

11| Pati Patni Aur Woh (1978)

A film of Sanjeev Kapoor, Vidya Sinha, and a supporting role of Ranjeeta. Ranjeet (Sanjeev) gets married with Sharda (Vidya) and all seems to go well. But the charm and the milky-white skin of Nirmala (Ranjeeta) makes the boss in charge Ranjeet to have an extra-marital affair with her. A comical take on extra-marital affair.

12| Khatta Meeta (1978)

A film in which Ashok Kumar has lost his wife and is on the verge of retiring from work then his friend David Abrahim come to rescue by convincing him to remarry so as to fill the emptiness in his life. Seemingly different comedy movie with a moral message that everyone has the right to live his/her life as they want.

13| Golmaal (1979)

This is one such movie which you'll find in every list that is published or will be published on Hindi comedy flicks.

Yes that's Amol Palekar and Ranjeeta.
Yes that's Amol Palekar and Ranjeeta.

14| Meri Biwi Ki Shaadi (1979)

This one is only for Amol Palekar's fan, others might not find good this one. The plot of the film is such that Amol Palekar believes that he has some serious health issues (which is just his imagination) and will live no more than few months, for that he sets out to marry her wife so that after him someone will be there to look after her.

15| Khubsoorat (1980)

This is Rekha's first movie in which she does a comedy role. Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee is a master when it comes to comedy. Rekha was honored as the best actress and the movie was selected as best movie in the filmfare awards 1981.

16| Chashme Baddor (1981)

A comedy film involving three college friends out of which two (Ravi Baswani and Rakesh Bedi) are interested only in chasing girls whereas one (Farooq Shaikh) is interested in studies and in his love interest (Deepti Naval).

17| Naram Garam (1981)

Sometime ago someone suggested me to see this one. And I must say this was an enjoyable watch. Specially the scenes involving Utpal Dutt and Amol Palekar.

18| Satte Pe Saata (1982)

Story of seven brothers who live shabbily until the eldest brother (Amitabh) falls in love with Hema Malini who changes them. Also a suspense involving two roles of Amitabh. One of the best comedy scene from the movie is where Amjad Khan inebriates Amitabh Bachchan and the following dialogues.

Amitabh Doesn't Drink Alcohol

19| Shaukeen (1982)

Story of three friends in their sixties who think they are in their twenties and want to have alcohol, smoke and young women. Ultimately their con is caught by one of the friend's wife.

20| Angoor (1982)

A classic comedy dealing with two pairs of twins and how they meet and the confusion that happens as they are interchanged with each other.

English is a funny language

21| Namak Halaal (1982)

One more for the Amitabh fans. I mean who is not an Amitabh fan, we all love him because of such films and his truly gentleman-like conduct in everyday life.

22| Jaane Bhi do Yaaro (1983)

A film exposing the things that happen in the society and how everyone involved is corrupt in some or the other way. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee even has a book published by the same name.

23| Kissi Se Na Kehna (1983)

Utpal Dutt plays a character of a person who hates western culture and westernized girls, also he want his son played by Farooq Shaikh to marry a goan ki chori. But his son is already in love with Ramola played by Deepti Naval. See for yourself how Utpal Dutt is made to believe that Ramola is indeed a village girl who doesn't know anything about city life and English. The movie is also available to watch freely on Youtube.

24| Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986)

A unusual comedy film of Anil Kapoor, Amrita Singh, Pankaj Kapoor, Om Prakash and Amjad Khan. Master Pahelwan (Om Prakash) wants Charandas (Anil Kapoor) to be a Brahmachari but Charandas falls in love with Chameli (Amrita Singh). Advocate Harish (Amjad Khan) comes to the rescue and teaches Charandas how to convince Chameli.

25| Peechha Karro (1986)

A comedy thriller starring Amjad Khan and Ravi Baswani.

26| Baat Ban Jaaye (1986)

A multi starcast comedy flick. A must watch for some funny scenes from Utpal Dutt and Raj Babbar.

27| Anubhav (1986)

A movie from which Shekhar Suman got much attention. There are some funny scenes in the movie that make it one time watchable.

28| Pushpak (1987)

A silent movie (no dialogues, no music only background music) but you won't stop laughing. Kamal Hasan does an excellent job and this one is definitely a must watch. Lately, I haven't seen this movie appearing on T.V. Probably to watch this one you might have to spend some movie. But the money spend would be definitely worth.

29| Maalamaal (1988)

Naseeruddin Shah one fine day finds that he has inherited large amount of money from his grandfather. But there is a clause attached that he should spend all the money in 30 days, there also some semi-clauses attached as to how he should spend this money.

30| Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri (1990)

Although it is a serious kind of film but the scenes of Kadar Khan along with Shakti Kapoor are rib-tickling. Especially when they plan and con people.

31| Chamatkar (1992)

Though not a complete comedy but I have included this one because some moments in the movie are very well done.

32| Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993)

An Aamir Khan starring film which was a tremendous hit where he shares the screen with Juhi Chawla.

33| Raja Babu (1994)

Now comes Govinda with his awesome comic timing. The list has many Govinda films. Although he did serious roles also, but his comedy movies were major hits.

34| Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

An ultimate laugh riot in which every scene is filled with laughter. Famous dialogues with melodious songs makes the movie watchable even ten times. Below is one such comedy scene where Aamir and Salman come to meet Paresh Rawal.

The 3-Minute Meeting

35| Coolie No. 1 (1995)

Again a Govinda movie in which he plays a role of a Coolie but marries a rich girl (played by Karisma Kapoor), the daughter of Hoshiyar Chand (Kadar Khan) with assistance from Shaadiram Gharjode (Sadashiv Amrapurkar).

36| Taqdeerwala (1995)

A good plot and some excellent comedy. A must watch if you haven't.

Funny Clip From Judaai

37| Judaai (1997)

Again not completely comedy movie but there are some great comedy scenes that makes one go laughingly fall from the chair.

38| Judwaa (1997)

A story of twins one becomes a posh educated lad whereas the other one is a thief. Comedy arises when they meet and the revelation of the same.

39| Deewana Mastana (1997)

The story where both the lead characters try to make the other a lesser mortal. One-upmanship goes on til the last minute but ultimately a third one takes the Heroine.

40| Hero No. 1 (1997)

A remake of the old film Baawarchi. Though the director might say the story is only 'inspired' but the second half is totally same.

41| Chachi 420 (1997)

Kamal Hasan comes with yet another character in which he looks as if it is not the character, but everything is happening in actuality.

42| Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998)

One more movie based on the concept of twins; played by Govinda and Amitabh, one pair is a loyal police officer, and the other ones are loyal thieves.

43| Dulhe Raja (1998)

Govinda makes the life of Kadar Khan a hell. Watch the adjacent video to experience one such moment.

44| Aunty No. 1 (1998)

In the ninety's Govinda was a part of many comedy films. This is one another one in which he plays a woman character.

45| Khoobsurat (1999)

A Sanjay Dutt starring comedy.

46| Biwi No.1 (1999)

Again one of my favorite films. I don't have any other reason to include this one. Do you agree with this inclusion? If not, then let us know in your comments.

47| Hello Brother (1999)

For some over-the-top comedy scenes watch Hello Brother. Don't give much of a thought to justify some scenes. Just laugh about it.

Funny Awara Paagal Deewana Clip

48| Awara Paagal Deewana (1999)

Paresh Rawal at his best. To remind you, Paresh Rawal has a problem of remembering names, he calls Chatri as Khatri, Paramjeet as Biswajeet; to add to that he even forgets his own name.

49| Hera Pheri (2000)

One of the greatest comedy movies ever made. Let me remind you some of the famous characters of the movie: Babulal as Paresh Rawal, Shyam as Sunil Shetty, Raju as Akshay Kumar, and Kabira as Gulshan Grover.

50| Jodi No. 1 (2000)

Govinda and Sanjay Dutt play best friends who scam rich people until they accidently kill a dreaded gangster's brother; to avoid being caught they take refuge in a different city and fall in love.

51| Style (2001)

This film truly belongs to Sharma Joshi. The entire movie holds you up with its interesting story-line.

52| Love Ke Liye Kucch Bhi Karega (2001)

A light-heart comedy movie with a serious plot. I mean this is one of the movies which I regret not watching in a cinema hall. Kisses for Sonali Bendre for doing a role of a rich pampered brat. I think Sonali is one of the best looking actresses out there. Before I go overboard about Sonali let me remind you about Aslam Bhai. Shahrukh Shakkar Hai To.......you know what follows!

53| Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar (2001)

Whose home is it? Is it of Dayashankar Pandey (Sunil Shetty) or Saraswati (Mahima Choudhary). Funny role in between of Paresh Rawal as an Inspector. One of the film where I liked Mahima's performance.

54| Fun2shh... Dudes in the 10th Century (2003)

Chindi chor played by Gulshan Grover is an infamous thief who manages to steal Maharaja Babushah's crown and the blame comes on to two security guards. What follows is how they escape from the city and end up time-travelling to the tenth century.

55| Hungama (2003)

Hungama does complete justice to its name, all around Hungama is what awaits you. Let me remind you one funny scene of the movie, Anjali (Rimi Sen) comes to seek a job from industrialist Radheyshyam Tiwari (Paresh Rawal), seeing the resume he says "M.A kiya hai, B.A bhi kiya hai......S.S.C nahi kiya hai".

56| Run (2004)

Now this inclusion is just because of the performance of Vijay Raaz. He nails it hands-down. Though it is a word-to-word copy from a Tamil film. But who cares we are here to enjoy. So, here is a video lined up for you from the film.

All in One Comedy Clip From Run Movie

57| Munnabhai M.B.B.S. (2003)

Again a laugh riot with great songs and fine performances.

58| Xcuse Me (2003)

A sequel to the 2001 hit movie Style. Though not on par with the first one but still a one time watchable.

59| Masti (2004)

Three friends, their marriage, a plan and then Sikandar.

Original cover poster of the movie

60| Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004)

If I remember it properly before this Salman didn't had any films in the comedy genre. This marks as the first comedy movie of Salman Khan. But Akshay overshadows the role of Salman.

61| Hulchul (2004)

Again a multi-star cast filled with comedy scenes here and there. Also Farha comeback movie to the big-screen.

62| Hyderabadi Nawab (2005)

A Hyderabadi-Hindi movie. Sometime back this was suggested by one of my friends, and this turned out to be one of the greatest comedy that I have seen. Get this movie right away and enjoy it over your weekends. This is high quality stuff.

63| No Entry (2005)

Press reporters (Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan) make no mistake to catch famous people betraying on their wife and make it a front page news. When they try to do the same with their long-time friend Prem (Salman) they fall in the unknown territory of Prem. True to his name, Prem, has a knack of getting girls. Prem plants a girl, Bobby (Bipasha Basu) to havoc their life. Heavy dose of comedy at the climax.

64| Garam Masala (2005)

A movie of Akshay Kumar and John Abraham. This is the first movie of John Abraham where he tries comedy.

65| Bunty Aur Babli (2005)

A village girl and a boy wants to make it big in life. First they try their hand by genuine methods, instead find they have been conned. So they set their targets and start to con people and thus become famous or should I say infamous.

66| Kya Kool Hai Hum (2005)

A sex-comedy movie with many funny and double-meaning scenes. Watch if you like such type of comedy.

67| Golmaal : Fun Unlimited (2006)

Golmaal wasn't properly publicized when it was releasing, probably the director did know that the film will anyway do well regardless of spending money on publicity.

68| Angrez (2006)

A sequel to the 2005 hit film Hyderabadi Nawaab. This is really rib-tickling, ridiculous over-the-top comedy. Some double-meaning dialogues.

69| Phir Hera Pheri (2006)

Doesn't do full justice to its predecessor but as many say it is still a one-time watchable movie.

70| Malamaal Weekly (2006)

A poor village where only one person is educated who starts a lottery business. One fine day a drunkard wins the lottery and in the joy of winning one crore he dies. Nobody except the lottery seller knows at first but slowly and steadily each person of the village knows about it.

71| Bhagam Bhag (2006)

The return of Govinda to the big screen with a bang.

72| Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006)

Many sequel movies don't do very good. Both in terms of collection as well as the script did better than the first one. Hope to see the third one anytime soon.

73| Chupke Chupke (2006)

The inclusion of this movie is debatable. Still I'm going ahead as it has wonderful comedy from Rajpal Yadav and Paresh Rawal.

74| Dhamaal (2007)

One such movie where you will laugh till you fall. I can watch this hundred times! Treasure hunting the fun way. Watch the below video to see one of the many idiotically laughable moment.

Where is My Pizza!

75| Dhol (2007)

One more hit movie from Priyadarshan. Most of Priyadarshan's Hindi movies are laugh riots, this one is no different. Interesting script to add to the fun.

76| Welcome (2007)

A huge star cast and excellent comedy from Nana Patekar. Though Paresh Rawal is good but Nana Patekar definitely takes this one.

77| Heyy Baby (2007)

A cute baby, cute story, and some cute laughs.

78| Partner (2007)

Frankly I don't find this one comedy. Many disagree and many may agree with me. Which side are you?

79| Bheja Fry (2007)

This is one such movie where you'll laugh till you cry.

80| Welcome to Sajjanpur (2008)

A film with a relatively low budget which made good collection at the box office. Shreyas Talpade does a good job supported well by others.

81| Hyderabadi Bakra (2008)

One more Hyderabadi-Hindi movie which is more or less funny. Do not watch if you don't like double-meaning dialogues.

Papas and Pintos

82| One, Two, Three (2008)

The movie certainly didn't had script writers. There is no such thing like a "script" in this movie. But that doesn't stops this one from one of the better comedies. Remember Papas and Sunil Shetty's Your left or my left dialogue.

83| Golmaal Returns (2008)

A pun on the saas-bahu serial watchers with a backdrop of a murder.

84| Sunday (2008)

This is an amazing movie with awesome comedy from Arshad Warsi and Ajay Devgun. This movie is a real treat to watch.

85| All the Best (2009)

Again a film directed by Rohit Shetty. He does it so well in directing a comedy movie. Also he has proved that he can do equally great in the action genre by directing Singham. Don't try to find the reason behind some scenes in this movie, they are illogical but comical.

86| De Dana Dan (2009)

A huge star cast with laugh out loud comedy.

87| 3 Idiots (2009)

One of the biggest hits of all time. So many moments of laughter with a deep message. Mocks the current education system and how there is a rat-race for becoming doctors and engineers.

88| Khosla Ka Ghosla (2009)

A small budget film which brings forward how the builder mafia operates. Written by Jaideep Sahni of the Chak De India fame.

89| 99 (2009)

Yes, 99, that's the movie name. Based on the India-South Africa cricket betting is a good one. Script is very well done and you'll definitely laugh in this one if you haven't watched this one.

90| Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009)

Missed this one in the first edit. Including this romantic comedy. (Updated : April 4th 2012).

91| Golmaal 3 (2010)

If the first two movies in the series were not enough then here comes the third one. Specifically the act of Johny Lever is fabulous.

92| Phas Gaye Re Obama (2010)

One more small budget film that did wonders at the box office. Story of a NRI who is a victim of recession and comes to India to sell his ancestral property. But a small-time gang that operates kidnaps him, see how he is traded and finally ends up in the nets of a gangster turned minister. The below video from the movie is a pun on "come and speak English fluently" syndrome.

"English Teaching Not a Rice Plate Eating [sic]"

93| Tere Bin Laden (2010)

A local TV reporter wants to migrate to the U.S but he does not have the required money nor he is getting visa, so he is stuck with a local T.V channel until he finds a Osama Bin Laden lookalike.

94| Khatta Meetha (2010)

Story of a middle-class Indian and his attempt of making it big in the 'who gives bribe is allowed first society'.

95| Housefull (2010)

The film has positive as well as negative reviews. I second both the opinion.

96| Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge (2010)

Ajay Devgun and Konkana Sen Sharma at the receiving end of Paresh Rawal, quite literally.

97| Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2010)

First time director Ali Abbas attempt at comedy with his writing and direction.

98| Thank You (2011)

Three best friends and business partners. Other thing that is common between them is that although they love their wives they also love many other girls. One of the friend's wife suspects something fishy and hires a private detective in order to expose them.

99| Ready (2011)

One of the biggest hits of 2011. Salman charms once again and it is a complete paisa vasool movie.

100| Delhi Belly (2011)

Comedy movie for the newer generation.

I hope you liked the collection and enjoyed the videos too. If you would like to recommend a movie that should be included then let us know in the comments section, also tell why it should be added and which movie does not deserves to be in the list.
