If you are looking for a simple egg recipe then this one is surely the most simplest of them all. Even someone like me who doesn't know to cook except to mash potatoes and ginger. Means for people who haven't seen their kitchen yet will also find this recipe very simple.
Not to mention that it taste great. It takes no more than half an hour and if you know how to boil eggs then you can make this dish. Egg pakoda or egg pakora as it is pronounced in different part of India can be served as a snack with your tea/coffee or when you are having the occasional drink with your friends. Mind you it taste great with tomato sauce.
Below you'll find which ingredients are to be used, directions to prepare, and also a quick video so that you can better learn this easy recipe.
So let's see how to make this recipe. But not one I will show you two methods of making egg pakodas.
Ingredients
- 4 Eggs
- 1 cup Bengal gram flour (Chickpea flour)
- 1/2 tsp Red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Cooking Oil to deep/shallow fry
1st Method
The first and the second differ method from each other in the way boiled eggs are used. The first method uses boiled eggs that are cut in two pieces whereas in the second method the eggs are finely chopped.
- Buy eggs from your nearest shop (No, you can't buy them online). Okay, firstly boil the eggs and remove the shell. Boiling eggs for approximately 15 minutes will do the job.
- Cut the eggs in two or four pieces. If you are doing it for the first time then cut only two pieces because cutting eggs in four pieces makes the frying part a little difficult.
- Sprinkle the eggs with red chilly powder, coriander powder, and if you like also add some lemon water on it. Keep it for some time until you prepare the batter.
- Preparing the batter is also quick. Take a cup of Bengal gram flour and add some water, a bit of chilly and coriander powder and salt and move it with the help of a spoon until you get a paste.
- Now that you have the batter is ready, heat cooking oil in a pan and coat the eggs with the batter and deep or shallow fry them. It can be deep fried or shallow fried according to your choice. Shallow frying seems to me a better option.
- One thing to keep in mind specifically is when you are coating the eggs with the batter. Coat the eggs properly otherwise when you fry them it starts to burst when it is fried. Coat the eggs properly to avoid this.
- That's it, dance a little and have the lovely pakodas that you just made.
2nd Method
If I tell that the second method is more easier than the first one then it would not be wrong. In this method the eggs and other ingredients are chopped and then a mixed and fried.
Exact steps to make this.
- Peel the boiled eggs and grate them in a bowl.
- Add finely chopped spring onions, Bengal gram flour, chilly powder, coriander powder, and salt as per taste.
- Also add chopped green chilly, turmeric powder with eating soda and then by adding some water mix it thoroughly.
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Make round shaped pakodas and fry them when then oil is hot.
- Serve it with green chutney or tomato sauce.
Note : The nutritional value of oil for frying is determined on the basis of retention value of 10% after cooking. The nutritional value may vary depending on the cook time, temperature, ingredient density, and the type of oil used.
