This is the collection of top 25 comedy Hindi movies sorted according to the year in which they were released. Don't forget to watch the funny clips alongside each movie listing, they are quite hilarious. Also, if this list doesn't satisfy your quest then at the end of this hub I've a link which has a list of hundred comedies.
1| Padosan (1968)
This light-hearted romantic comedy movie is a must watch movie. The story revolves around Bhola (Sunil Dutt) and his lady love Bindu (Saira Banu).
One of the best bollywood movie, filled with great performance and songs, remember Vidyapathi (Kishore Kumar) or the famous song Meri Pyaari Bindu.
I particularly adore the role of Mahmood who plays a Tamilian. Many people have disregarded this movie because it shows a Tamilian in bad taste. I am Tamilian and I don't find anything that mocks the South-Indian culture. The difference is to take the movie in the right spirit.
2| Bombay to Goa (1972)
A remake of Tamil movie Madras to Pondicherry. Excellent music and funny scenes strewn across the movie.
Amma Pakoda, the funny Tamil boy's act is an over-the-top comedy scene. Again a movie which has the Tamil element. Just have an awesome blast watching this.
Hop on to the exciting journey known as Bombay to Goa.
3| Chupke Chupke (1975)
Dharmendra at its best. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee is a classic comedy movie.
Each and every character is written excellently and watching it once won't satisfy you.
If you haven't watched this then you're missing something special. I have stopped counting how much times I have seen this one.
4| Chhoti Si Baat (1975)
A romantic comedy movie which brought Amol Palekar in a unique zone.
The story of a young shy person without any suave wanting to impress a girl with his simple methods goes unattended. So he seeks the help of a retired general who has his own techniques and understands the psychology of girls.
Will he (Arun, played by Amol) get his love or not forms the rest of the film.
5| Gol Maal (1979)
Bhavani Shankar (Utpal Dutt), the man of traditional values and Ram Prasad (Amol Palekar) is desperately looking for a well paying job. For that matter he visits Bhavani's office with careful considerations given to all the requirements that he (Bhavani Shankar) likes.
Moustache-less persons are a big no-no to Bhavani Shankar, the story revolves around the confusion that happens when he (Bhavani Shankar) sees him (Amol Palekar) moustache-less in a hockey match.
All time great movie and Utpal Dutt's work - a masterstroke.
Beta Ramprasad.
6| Chashme Buddoor (1981)
A romantic comedy movie with effortless comedy by Farooq Shaikh and company.
The first part of the story is of Siddharth (Farooq Shaikh) who is extremely studious and falls in love with Neha (Deepti Naval), whereas Omi (Rakesh Bedi) and Jomo (Ravi Baswani) are just interested in chasing girls.
The second part is the attempt to stage a fake kidnap of Neha which turns out to a real kidnap by a dreaded gang.
7| Satte Pe Satta (1982)
Story of seven brothers living in a farm house and their story. Hilarious scenes, unforgettable music and script.
The video here shows the funniest scene of the movie where Amitabh Bachchan is down few pegs and then the trademark dialogue "Dur peene se Liver Kharab hota hai"
8| Angoor (1982)
Based on Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors. Oh! You won't stop laughing.
The story of two pairs of identical twins and the confusion all-around. One pair played by Sanjeev Kumar (both characters named Ashok) and the other pair by Deven Verma (both characters named Bahadur). Funny all down till the last minute.
More than enough reasons to make a remake; Shahrukh Khan, Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena will feature in the remake for Sanjeev Kapoor, Deven Verma and Moshmi Chatterjee, respectively.
9| Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983)
Kundan Shah, the director got the Indira Gandhi award for best first film by a director. The classic comedy movie is one of the most high-valued comedy movie ever made.
Much has said about this movie everywhere from TV news to leading dailies even now the movie is talked about in television debates. Ravi Baswani was awarded the Filmfare award of best comedian of the year.
Want to know about the movie, go buy the book made on this movie by Jai Arjun Singh.
10| Chameli Ki Shaadi (1986)
The story adapted from a novel by O.P Sharma is film of different kind.
Famous characters from the movie :-
- Anil Kapoor - Charandas
- Amrita Singh - Chameli
- Amjad Khan - Advocate Harish
- Om Prakash - Ustad Mastram Pahelwan
- Pankaj Kapoor - Kallumal 'Koylewalla' Chameli's Father
11| Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
For some reason this movie was a dud at the box office, but that didn't stop this from one of the movies which can be seen a hundred times.
Unforgettable Dialogues : -
Teja (Paresh Rawal) - Patte Bhicha Dunga
Teja Main Hoon, Mark Idhar Hai!
Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor) - Aaya hu to kuch leke jaounga
Well, we might see a remake of the movie with the original lead actors: Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.
12| Coolie No. 1 (1995)
Hoshiyar Chand (Kader Khan) claims to be the most intelligent man and wants to marry his both daughters in the wealthiest family.
Shadiram Gharjode (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) is insulted by Hoshiyar Chand and in return he decides on to teach him lesson. For that, he ropes in Raju (Govinda), a Coolie at the local bus-stop to make-believe him as a rich person to Hoshiyar Chand. Raju marries Malathi (Karishma Kapoor) and takes her to Mumbai. Mama (Shakti Kapoor) accompanies Malathi to Mumbai as a age-old family tradition and the subsequent revelation of the con and the many twist and turns with a funny climax.
A good story and hilarious scenes to say the least.
13| Judaai (1997)
The only reason to include this movie is because of the finest performance by Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Kader Khan, and Upasna Singh.
This was also the last movie in which Sridevi acted as the lead actress.
Unforgettable funny scenes. : -
- Johnny Lever sees Upasna Singh (the Abba-Dabba-Jabba girl) for the first time and Paresh Rawal's interruption.
- Johnny Lever enacts that his father has died and the subsequent scene at his doorstep.
- Paresh Rawal visiting Kader Khan's house. Watch the video on the right side.
- Honeymoon scene of Johnny Lever and Upasna Singh.
14| Deewana Mastana (1997)
Remember Pappu Pager; Bunnu, the baby step guy, and Gafoor bhai.

- Govinda - Bunnu
- Juhi Chawla - Dr. Neha Sharma
- Johnny Lever - Gaffoor

15| Hera Pheri (2000)
Kabira speaking. Hera Pheri needs no introduction, though it is a remake of a Tamil movie, saying its rib-tickling, hilarious will be an understatement. Fun down till the last millisecond.
Some popular characters : -
- Akshay Kumar - Raju
- Sunil Shetty - Ghanshyam (Shyam)
- Paresh Rawal - Baburao Ganpatrao Apte
- Gulshan Grover - Kabira
- Kulbhushan Kharbanda - Devi Prasad

16| Love Ke Liye Kucch Bhi Karega (2001)
A movie which brought many unrelated actors who didn't had done films together. The sheer value in writing and the dialogues makes this a great spectacle.
Every character has its own problem which they want to get rid of by fair or unfair means. They choose the middle path but somehow fall prey to circumstances.
17| Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003)
A surprise comedy movie for the viewers. It was not marketed as a comedy movie but got huge publicity by word-of-mouth.
Nor many were expecting Sanjay Dutt to do comedy. A great camaraderie between Munna and Circuit makes it all the more beautiful. The duo only second to Jai-Veeru.
18| No Entry (2005)
As funny as it can get. A movie which we all love to watch again and again. Must have movie in anyone's collection.
The trio Anil Kapoor, Fardeen, and Salman are coming back with a sequel known as No Entry Mein Entry. Expect more laugh.
19| GolMaal Series - 2006, 2008, 2010
Golmaal (2006) started it all and then it returned and then the Golmaal 3. From the first movie it has only grown in every aspect, from budget to star cast. We might just see the fourth version of it.
All the three movies of the series are good, but the first one just better than the rest.
20| The Angrez (2006)
If you haven't seen this one, and this seems foreign to you then you got to see this one. This is Hyderabadi Hindi movie and it is an excellent one.
Angrez has a unique record of running to packed houses in a single theatre for over 25 weeks in Hyderabad.
One can call this as the second movie in the series - the other two being Hyderabadi Nawab and Hungama in Dubai.
Don't watch with your family. Has some double meaning dialogues especially in Hungama in Dubai.
21| Dhamaal (2007)
Remake at its best, Dhamaal has its root from the Hollywood comedy "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" released in 1963. Yes in 1963, precisely forty five years back.
It grossed closed to 50 crore rupees and also got good reviews across various media houses.
Watch the funny scene where Vijay Raaz tries to explain how an aeroplane should be landed.
22| Dhol (2007)
Four friends want to become rich and they decide to go the easy way by marrying a rich girl.
Each of them tries their luck and the subsequent changes in the film with comedy, suspense, and drama.
23| Bheja Fry (2007)
The penultimate in the series is Bheja Fry, a remake of a French movie.
The low budget film was a success at the box office courtesy brilliant performances from all the characters, especially Rajat Kapoor and Vinay Pathak.
24| 3 Idiots (2009)
A film which uses the true meaning of comedy that is to get a message across. The USP of the movie is its comedy and one scene better than the other.
There are many comedy sequence right from the first second but the speech scene of Chatur is the best.
25| All the Best (2009)
This is a no-brainer, complete fuss, hilarious type of a comedy movie. Don't think much and relish the unexpected twist and turns in the movie.
All the actors have done complete justice to the script. Sanjay Dutt got the IIFA award for the best comic role.
Those were the top 25 best comedy movies from the history of Indian cinema.

Garam Masala is one of my fav...not in your list :(
Malamal Weekly missing
hw cn movies lik all the best nd dhol be in any possible list of best movies???
I dont think there are more than 10 films in this list that are worth mentioning as comedies. And your statement that these are the 25 best comedies in the country is ridiculous. There are comedies made in regional languages that are far better than crap like Andaz Apna Apna and Golmaal (the new one, I mean). Barring Munnabhai, most of the comedies in Hindi cinema during the 80s and 90s are cheap and offensive.
munna bhai mbbs and no entry missing
Angrez !! All time best movie, LMAO!!
I don't see a movie appear in most of the lists...perhaps overlooked or forgotten...Amol Palekar's natural comedy, 'Choti si Baat'... I manage to smile and laugh at instances every time I see it...
I think Dhamal is the best.why no entry is not there???
great selection ..
missed Half-Ticket of Kishor Kumar
Andaz apna apna is best
many more movies ought to be there
nice list anyways....all are good movies only
nice list... missed out malamaal weekly...
i think gol maal is the best movies...
Judaai and All the Best should not be in the top 20 movies
it is better to make a list of 100 top comedy movies not 20
Why does 3 idiot not on the list
i think all the best is the best!
I am not agree for these list becauge there not naram garam and ek soti si baat
Don't you think 50% is not that bad. You may not agree, but the recent Golmal phenomena is the shit I have even seen in Hindi cinema.
I have watched 10 movies out of twenty on the list. Gol Maal (1979) is my best on the list. But as far as I can remember Naram Garam is my all time favorite comedy movie. I can't remember the year but Utpal Dutt is on the lead.
Andaz Apna Apna is no doubt the best
disappointed not to see 1. half ticket 2. chalti ka nam gadi
these two movie of great Kishore da deserve the top in lists. Must watch whenever and wherever you get a chance.
Liked it..revisiting old times
